Grant Description
Grants of up to $35,000 to Iowa nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and schools for programs and projects that enhance the quality of life in eligible locations. Funding is intended to address community needs in areas such as education, health, elderly support services, emergency services, and youth and recreation. Funded projects must take place within Greene County.

The mission of the Greene County Community Foundation is to foster private giving, strengthen service providers and improve the overall well-being of the county’s residents. The Foundation works to build its endowment fund which in turn provides grants to accomplish its goals. The Foundation encourages applicants to submit a grant application that does one of the following:

  • Supports strong, stable families and provides solid beginnings for children and youth.
  • Serves as a catalyst for youth and recreational activities.
  • Helps to promote elder care, support services and an active senior population.
  • Promotes the health, education and vitality of the community.
  • Addresses community needs for police, fire and emergency services.
  • Assists in developing quality jobs, tourism and economic development.
  • Helps make the local community more attractive, livable and cohesive.

Request types include: 

  • Capital based project (building improvements, structures, equipment, computers, etc.)
  • Program based project (activities, services, education, training, non-durable goods)

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Only the following entities can receive Foundation grants:
- Nonprofit organizations with a 501(c)(3) status.
- Government entities, such as cities, counties and schools.
- Groups sponsored by a government entity or another 501(c)(3) that agrees to manage the grant funds (the “Fiscal Sponsor”).

All projects must take place within Greene County.

Ineligible
The Foundation will generally not consider funding requests for the following:
- Ongoing annual operating expenses.
- Any project at 100%
- Financial support for individuals or their families
- For-profit organizations or programs.
- Membership in civic or social organizations
- Endowment funds
- Projects directly related to religious worship; sectarian religious or political programs
- Political activities
- Annual campaigns or capital campaigns for private organizations
- Fundraising events or activities – both private and public

Pre-Application Information
Deadline: February 15th, 2024 at 4:00 PM CST.

Grant awards are normally made once per year in March and projects are normally completed by the end of the calendar year.

A minimum of 25% matching funds is required by the Foundation. Therefore, your requested grant funds may not be over 75% of the total project cost.

No federal funds or Grow Greene County direct grants may be used as an in-kind match.

Estimated Size of Grant
The maximum grant request is $35,000. The minimum is $1,000.

Term of Contract
Projects are normally completed by the end of the calendar year.

If hand delivering or mailing hard copies of the grant application packet, submissions should include 2 complete copies of the grant application packets.

If mailing a grant application packet, it must be received by the deadline and mailed to Greene County Community Foundation PO Box 85 Jefferson, IA 50129. A digital copy of the grant must also be emailed to greeneccf@gmail.com.

If hand delivering the grant application packet it must be it must be dropped off at the Journey Financial, LLC Office Home State Bank (115 West State Street in Jefferson), during normal business hours and before the deadline.
